When the next heatwave strikes, you’ll pat yourself on the back for having everything you need to make a flavorful, ice-cold glass of iced tea. It’s refreshing, it’s cooling, and honestly, it’s a whole vibe! We're pretty sure that when Vanilla Ice was writing “Ice Ice Baby", he was sipping a thirst-quenching iced tea. 😎
Is Iced Tea Good for You
This is the summertime question we have asked ourselves before. What it comes down to is that there are two sides to every teacup. Here are some reasons why iced tea is good for you:
- Give yourself some self-care during hot days. Iced tea is a refreshing and bold treat to keep you feeling cool and satisfied. *Deep sigh*
- More flavor, less sugar. 99% of Stash flavors can be turned into a sugar-free iced tea, making for a flavorful way to appease your sweet tooth with low to no calories. Nice.
- If you find yourself drinking one or five too many iced coffees during the summer (not judging) and need a little less zip in your step, you can switch to caffeine free iced tea instead.
- Bored with water but like feeling hydrated? We definitely get that. Make yourself a tasty tea soda instead. Just brew up a double strength cuppa, let cool, add ice and sparkling water. Voilá! You’re a Martha Stewart in the making. Some flavors that work great for this are Mango Passionfruit, Moroccan Mint, and Wild Raspberry.
Yep! There’s lots to be said for the argument that iced tea is good for you. But let’s look at the other side, too: is iced tea bad for you? Premade or bottled iced teas tend to include a lot of sugar and other added ingredients. Luckily, our teas don’t! They are naturally sugar-free and allow you to sweeten to your particular liking, or not at all!
Caffeine in Iced Tea
So you’re wondering how much caffeine is in iced tea. Unfortunately, the answer is not that simple. The actual amounts of caffeine in your iced tea glass will vary. Of course, the ingredients play a big part, like what type of tea you’re drinking, but so does the temperature you brew your tea at, how long you steep it for, the proportion of tea to water, and your serving size.
If you want iced teas with a good caffeine kick, we recommend trying our iced teas blended with green or black tea, like Moroccan Mint or Earl Grey iced teas. On the other hand, if you are planning to drink the whole pitcher by yourself, we recommend choosing one of our many caffeine free iced tea options. Typically herbal teas are naturally caffeine free. Our Wild Raspberry iced tea is perfect for a wild child who still likes to be in bed by 9 PM.
How to Make Iced Tea
There are several options when considering how to brew iced tea, and all have their own little twist to the process. So if you are looking for the best way to make iced tea at home, follow our five steps when you use our readymade quart-sized iced tea brew bags.
1 qt brew bag makes 4 servings of 8 oz
- Boil 2 cups filtered water.
- Pour boiling water over a brew bag.
- Steep for 4 minutes.
- Remove the tea bag and add the brew concentrate to 2 cups cold water.
- Serve over ice.
Simple, fast, and fun!
So how many tea bags for a gallon of iced tea, you ask? If you are using our quart-sized brew bags, the answer would be 4, but if you go with our gallon-sized brew bags then yes, the answer is 1! One gallon-sized brew bag makes sixteen servings of 8 oz, so they are perfect for a big group of iced tea fanatics. If that’s the case, just follow the above steps but boil 8 cups of filtered water, then add 8 cups of cold water to the brewed concentrate.
If you are wondering how to make sweet iced tea, we recommend adding your choice of sweetener while the tea is still hot.
How to Make Iced Tea with Tea Bags
Any of our tea bag flavors can be used to create iced tea. And since ice tends to dilute any drink, you may be wondering how many tea bags to use to brew a better iced tea. We suggest increasing the number of tea bags per cup. Just follow the regular brewing instructions on the box or tea envelope, using double or triple the number of tea bags you normally would! No need to increase the steep time, as that may result in a bitter brew. Pour the tea concentrate over ice to enjoy!
Here are some of our favorite regular (and obviously delicious) tea bags to use for iced tea!
